Violet has been at Battersea since the end of June, Along with her brother and sister, Violet was brought in because her owners could no longer cope with them. She has lived at a kennels prior to coming to Battersea. When she arrived at the Home she was very much 'the shrinking violet' as she was hugely under-socialised and petrified by her surroundings. A person looking in through the front of the kennel was enough to reduce her to a rigid, terrified state at the back of her bed area. Violet was referred to the Rehabilitation department so that a programme could be created to help her move beyond her kennel and out into the very scary outside world!
Violet has made a great deal of progress in the last few weeks. She has started to form bonds with members of staff and gets very excited when she recognises them coming into the kennels. She has relaxed a lot in the kennel and has started to be much more animated, coming out to see who is going past and to say hello to other dogs!
Violet is looking for a home that meets specific requirements and with owners who will be able to build on the progress that has already been made with her in the Dogs Home. Potential owners will need to have experience of owning their own dogs and ideally working through nervous or under-socialised behaviours such as Violet has displayed. Working with Violet requires a very calm attitude and also a huge amount of patience as it takes her a long time to come round to people and relax in their company. She could live with older teenagers who are willing to be involved in her training but she would find living with children extremely stressful. Violet does like other dogs but as with her new owners, they would also need to be very laid back and relaxed around her! Ideal doggy friends must be confident around people but not be attention seeking or jealous around them, as Violet will become very attached to people once she has a bond with them.
Violet has lived in kennels for her whole life and is likely to find moving into a home environment rather stressful. Having a reasonably large area of land which is securely fenced in would really help this transition and also give Violet the space to come round to people in her own time. She does need to live in a quiet, at least semi-rural area, as the sounds and bustle of even a small town would be just too much for her.
Violet has not had the ideal start in life however, once she forms a bond with people, her true character begins to come through and she is affectionate and at times, highly comical! If you feel that you could offer Violet the home she needs,
