Sam is a 6 to 12 month old neutered male Labrador cross who came into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray in September 2007. An astute and resourceful lad with plenty of youthful energy, Sam thrives on being mentally stimulated and thus would suit like-minded outgoing interactive owners.Unfortunatley a brisk 5 minute walk in the park after work will not do for Sam, as he has boundless energy and find things to do if suitably bored! Sam was referred to the Behaviour Unit in order for us to investigate his interactions with other dogs and his separation-based issues.
Sam is looking for:
- Experienced owners who have had busy energetic dogs before and have a good understanding of how to maintain them within a household
- A household with 2 people or more, all keen to be involved in his training, as he has the potential to overbond. He could live with experienced older teenagers (14yrs+), and would love the extra attention
- Owners with lot of time and willing to follow an ongoing training programme to teach him to spend time alone, as he can be vocal when left
- Owners confident to socialise him with a wide range of male and female dogs who will teach him some socially acceptable doggie manners
- An active home in a low dog populated environment, ideally in a semi to rural environment, in order to gain focus and for consistency in training
- Sam could live with a mature female dog that is interactive but not intimidated but Sam's laddish behaviours
- Sam could potentially live with a strong, mature non-impressionable cat that is not easily intimidated by his chase behaviours and that will stand up for itself
