Smithy

Smithy is a worried girl initially but once she gets to know you she is very giggly and fun. Came in to Battersea as her owners separated and neither could keep her. Smithy has been tethered and kept outdoors since she was a puppy so will need to be housetrained and given plenty of time to settle in a home environment. Smithy can be nervous of strangers but usually comes around very quickly, especially when food is involved. Unfortunately she does not know any commands so owners must be prepared to start all basic training from scratch, including recall. Due to her breed type she may be more inclined to chase other animals off lead, so may need to be muzzled to protect the small and fluffy. Smithy is fairly active and will need owners to provide enough exercise, she will be a couch potato but only 50% of the time. Cannot be left alone initially as not housetrained or used to a home environment. Smithy cannot live with children due to her nervous behaviour but has also never been socialised around children. Prefer an all adult household, although older teenagers would be considered. Smithy is social with other dogs but loves to chase them, especially smaller dogs. She cannot live with another dog or cats. Ideally Smithy is looking for experienced dog owners who have owned sighthounds or rescue dogs before, she is not ideal for the first time dog owner. Fine to live in a meduim-large property but will need a garden. Because Smithy has not been in a home environment before she may initially struggle with stairs and different floor surfaces so we advise she does not live in a flat above the groundfloor. Smithy is a lovely girl just a little undersocialised and sensitive, once bonded she will make a loving and affectionate companion.
