Sid is a 4 year old male Cocker Spaniel who has not yet been neutered. He arrived at the home in March 2007 from his previous owner, through no fault of his own. Sid was referred to the Behaviour Unit for his intolerance of formal handling, especially around the collar area and for potential food possession issues. He is a typical Spaniel, a vocal but happy boy with bags of personality.
Sid will need:
- Sid is looking for owners who have owned dogs before, especially Spaniels
- Experience of dogs with handling issues, of intolerant dogs or of dogs with possession issues would be ideal
- An adult-only household with no visiting children is needed due to Sid's issues with handling and possession.
- Sid is looking for a multi-carer household where his time alone can be built up gradually from Day 1
- As Sid is very vocal he could not live in a flat as neighbours will need to be considered. He is looking for a house with a garden for burn-offs, initial training and mental stimulation
- Sid will need to live in a semi-rural to rural environment with quiet areas for training and because of his general vocal nature. A low dog population is also essential to minimise any lead-reactive behaviour
- Sid is very focused on other dogs when he is on lead and very vocal towards them Although his behaviour is better off-lead
- Sid needs to be the only dog in the household due to his potential for jealousy over attention and his possession issues.
- Unfortunately Sid cannot live with cats.
