Norton is 2 year old male Lurcher who came into Battersea Dogs & Cats Home back in August 2005 as a stray. He is not yet neutered. A scatty, over the top, enthusiastic young dog that is still very juvenile, Norton was referred to the The Behaviour Unit at Battersea in order for us to investigate his lack of self-control. Being a Lurcher, Norton becomes highly stimulated by moving objects and thus has a high chase drive. Norton is a great dog with bags of character and will be a real addition in the right home.
Norton is looking for:
- Owners with experience of Sight Hounds or Collies, as he has many of the breed traits and characteristics
- Norton will need a home with a garden in a semi-rural or rural location, as he is very active and owners will need the space to work on all elements of his basic training
- Unfortunately Norton cannot live with children due to his high chase drive and the level of consistency needed in his training, but older teens may be considered if they are prepared to be hands-on with regards to his training
- Norton could live with another dog, as long as it is non-impressionable, maturer dog that will teach Norton some doggie manners and has no chase- related issues
- Owners will need to listen and follow advice carefully from the Behaviour Unit so that the problem doesn't develop any further.
- Unfortunately due to Norton's chase drive he will not be suitable to live with cats
