Who is Mylo?
Milo is a 7 to 10 year old male neutered Chihuahua cross that came into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in June 2007. He is a sandy fawn and white in colour. He is neutered and will be micro chipped before leaving the Home.
Why did Mylo come into the Home?
Mylo was brought into the Home by his former owners back in June 2007.
What is Mylo like?
Milo is an appealingly loveable, yet eccentric little man that has an endearing character. He can be affectionate and responsive once he know you but will likely retain his independent side. He is under the illusion he is tougher (both in looks and personality!), and at times likes to ensure that everyone knows what their position is. Milo's personality will certainly appeal to an experienced Chihuahua enthusiast.
Why has Mylo been seen by the Behaviour Unit?
Mylo has spent time with our staff in the Behaviour Unit in order for us to investigate further his interactions with new people and his reactions towards other dogs. What we have discovered is that Mylo can be defensive with certain dogs and does show unease at meeting new people. New owners will need to have a good understanding of these types of issues and have experienced and successfully worked through these issues before.
What kind of home is Mylo looking for?
Mylo will need to be rehomed into a quieter semi-rural to rural environment that does not have a high people or dog population due to his behavioural issues. Due to Mylo's wariness around new people, he will need to be rehomed into an quiet, steady adult only household with no kids or visiting kids. Older teens (16yrs+) would be considered depending on their experience and expectations.
Ideally Mylo's new owners will live in a house, but we will consider a flat based on experience and facilities. New owners will need to realistically assess whether their neighbours will be affected by Mylo's periodic vocalness. It would be beneficial to owners if they had several nearby parks and open areas that were not too overcrowded with dogs as this would provide a distraction free environment to continue any training that Mylo will need.
Unfortunately due to Mylo's interactions with male dogs he is only suited to potentially living with a mature, steady matriarch-type female dog that has good tolerance levels.
What kind of owners is Mylo looking for?
Mylo will be looking for owners that have good experience of confident, mature characters and have sound knowledge of how to maintain them within a household. Ideally new owners will have owned either Chihuahua's or Terriers before. Although Mylo is spritely and bubbly he ultimately is seeking a quiet consistent environment that has a steady clear routine. Mylo will need to be viewed as a "companion" rather than a cute lap-dog! With this mind set, Mylo will make a rewarding little dog.
I Think I would fit that criteria, what should I do next?
Contact a member of the Behaviour team on 0207 627 7884, or email [email protected] and quote the reference 07/03090. Mylo will need some further training in her new home. To receive advice and guidance regarding this training from the Behaviour Unit staff that have worked with him, potential owners should be prepared to come into the Dogs Home for a minimum of two visits.
