Lou is a 2 to 3 year old Husky cross male (in a German Shepard's body!) that came into Battersea Dogs & Cats in October 2006 as a stray. Lou can have very endearing character with people. Bouncy and full of energy; Lou can, at times, get carried away with himself and will need owners who are prepared to take him on as a "working project" and calmly condition his behaviours. Although not the brightest star in the sky Lou certainly doesn't lack in enthusiasm and will do his utmost to please. He has spent time in our behaviour department in order for us to investigate his chase issues with other dogs and his lack of basic control.
Lou will need
- A location that isn't t too built up and not to heavily dog populated.
- A garden will be necessary as this will provide a calm area in which to continue any basic training and work on recall
- Ideally owners should have experience of German shepherds or high chase breeds but more importantly new owners will have sound experience of working on chase issues and will need to be very confident socialising him with the right kind of dogs
- Older children 15 years plus will be considered (but walking etc will need to firmly be an adult responsibility) depending on experience.
- patience
- sense of humor
A sweet companion that will be a great pet with the right guidance. Lou does need a specialist home as he has a high chase instinct and little knowledge of how to communicate with other dogs. He has very little awareness of how to play and socialise and chooses to chase as interaction. Because of this Lou will need a dedicated owner who has access to other dogs that he can learn from.
