  Who is Jimmy Floyd?

Jimmy is a male seven week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross that was born here at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. He is predominantly tan with some darker shading, especially on the tail. Jimmy will be micro chipped before leaving the Home.

Why did Jimmy Floyd come into the Home?

As stated above, Jimmy's mother came into the Home heavily pregnant and Jimmy (and his brothers and sisters!) were born a short time later.

What is Jimmy Floyd like?

Jimmy is a typical bouncy inquisitive youngster that has developed into a fantastically quirky individual. Happy to play with a variety of toys and amuse himself for prolonged periods of time, he has shown a wide range of good social behaviours that new owners will need to reinforce. Jimmy has been successfully crate trained and is fairly happy to spend time in his indoor kennel when commuting and overnight.

Why has Jimmy Floyd been seen by the Behaviour Unit?

Jimmy has been hand reared from the age of two weeks. As with most hand-reared puppies, Jimmy has not had the necessary discipline and nurturing that only a mother can provide. Jimmy has developed a few behavioural issues and will bark at both noises and movement once he has built up a territory and has shown a lack of bite inhibition and frustration control.

What kind of home is Jimmy Floyd looking for?

Due to Jimmy's reactions towards certain stimulus he will need to be rehomed into a house as opposed to a flat in a semi to rural environment. This will remove the temptation of him barking at people or noises outside. This house will need to have a securely enclosed garden and ideally an area that can be a designated "Jimmy-only" area like a utility room. This will provide an ideal location to continue to crate train Jimmy and as a location for Jimmy to spend his nights. Due to Jimmy's need for a consistent environment and his lack of bite inhibition, Jimmy will need to be rehomed into an adult-only household. Older teens (14yrs+) could potentially be considered if they have good experience around dogs and are mature in their outlook towards dog ownership.

What kind of owners is Jimmy Floyd looking for?

Jimmy's owners should be outgoing and active. Jimmy is a busy, curious lad and will need a fair amount of mental and physical stimulation in order to satisfy his hungry mind. New owners will need to have a good understanding about hand-reared puppies and realize the levels of work needed in maintaining and conditioning a hand-rear. New owners will need to have owned several dogs outright previously and ideally have owned confident bull breeds before.

I Think I would fit that criteria, what should I do next?

Contact a member of the Behaviour team on 0207 627 7884, or email [email protected] and quote the reference 08/02297.  Jimmy Floyd will need some further training in his new home. To receive advice and guidance regarding this training from the Behaviour Unit staff that have worked with her, potential owners should be prepared to come into the Dogs Home for a minimum of two visits.
