Chinuk is a 1-2 year old, neutered male, Siberian Husky who came to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in October 2006 as a stray. Intelligent, charismatic young dog, Chinuk has a bit of an ego and definitely tries to push his luck on occasions. He was seen by the Behaviour Unit to further investigate his behaviours with other dogs and also when handled, when he tends to throw a tantrum. Chinuk has all the positive and negative characteristics and must not be rehomed on looks alone. Chinuk is looking for:
- Chinuk must go to experienced owners that have a advanced knowledge of Husky/Malamute breeds and are willing to follow an ongoing training programme advised by the Behaviour Team at Battersea
- Chinuk is not suitable to live in an urban environment and will need a house in a specific semi rural or rural location with a garden. The location must also have low dog populated exercise areas
- A home with no children due to his easily excitable nature, although older teenagers will be considered
- Minimal leaving hours initially so that time in which he is left alone can be built up gradually. Once settled will probably be able to be left for 2 hours
- A home with a single owner would be considered if they have good facilities and are able to gradually build up the time he is left alone
- Chinuk could live with another dog, preferably a steady, older female, who will be interactive but not intimidated by him and who will teach him some manners
- A home with no cats
- Owners will need to have quite a large amount of free time available to dedicate to his mental and physical stimulation as he will have no problems finding alternative ways of keeping himself amused when bored
- Due to an old injury, Chinuk can only have limited exercise.
Bright, intelligent dog who is definitely one for Husky enthusiasts. Chinuk is at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home London. Please call the Behaviour Unit on 020 7627 7884 if you are interested in Chinuk or email us on [email protected] and quote ref 2006/05496
To receive advice and guidance regarding his training from the Behaviour Unit staff that have worked with him, potential owners should be prepared to come into the Dogs Home for a minimum of two visits.
