Bella is a 2 year old female Mastiff cross that came into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray in April 2007. She is not yet neutered. Bella has a fantastic character which will become ever more apparent with consistent training in her new home and once a bond has been formed with her new owners.Bella has spent some time with the Behaviour Unit in order for us to investigate her lack of basic control, which manifests itself in her jumping up and grabbing and her dislike of formal handling.
Bella is looking for:
- Owners that have a good level of experience with larger than life, boisterous characters and have a sound knowledge of how to maintain them within a household
- Owners with experience of the Mastiff breed would be ideal, but essentially new owners should have owned guarding breeds before
- Bella will need a semi-rural to rural environment due to her high chase drive
- Bella will need to be rehomed into an adult-only household due to her tendency for jumping up and grabbing. Older teens (16yrs +) could be considered depending on experience
- Owners must be willing to follow an ongoing training programme with Bella
- A house with a garden is essential for Bella's training and also for energy burn-offs. Ideally this house will have a designated "Bella area" like a utility room
- Bella could live with another dog. Ideally she requires a mature, steady male that has no status-related issues or chase-related issues
- Owners with an active lifestyle would be perfect for the mental and physical stimulation that Bella needs. Also owners would need the time to give Bella the guidance she requires in her new home,
- Unfortunately Bella cannot live with cats.
Bella will provide endless fun and entertainment for new owners if the right guidelines are implemented from the start.
