Alfred is a 2 year old, male, Dachshund cross who came to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in September 2006 as a stray. Affectionate but with a stubborn streak, Alfred is quite the character. Initally aloof, he soon warms to you and is much more responsive once a bond has been built. He spent time with the Behaviour Unit with regards to his behaviours towards other dogs and his issues with formal handling and Alfred has responded well to his training programme. Alfred is looking for:
- Owners who have owned their own dogs previously and have a 'no nonsense' approach to training. Experience of owning dogs with a similar temperament would be advantageous
- An adult household with no visiting children due to his need for consistency and his potential issues around food and toys, although sensible, older teenagers will be considered
- A multi-carer household with a maximum of 4 people to maintain consistency. A single carer household would be considered if they have good experience and facilities
- A quiet, semi rural or rural location required with low dog population exercise areas so that he can maintain focus when out and about. A garden is essential for recall and focus training
- Unfortunately, Alfred cannot live in a flat as he can be vocally demanding
- A home with no other dogs due to his stalking and controlling behaviours
